A promising method for vegetative propagation of horticultural plants in water culture [hardwood, semihardwood and soft stem cuttings of apples, mangoes, grapes, guava and olives]

A water culture method was developed to study the ability of regeneration of fruit trees cuttings. The cuttings were planted in glass beakers containing water or solution of small concentration of growth regulators (100 - 500 ppm). To prevent cuttings attack from pathogens, extra aeration was provided. Water culture temperature was also regulated in relation to the stage of cuttings development and the type of cuttings. This method was prepared with a controlled source of light. In comparison with the other methods of propagation, the recent method has the following advantages: 1. The root primordia can readily be observed. 2. Cuttings could be supplied with growth regulators at any time and for many times before and after planting. 3. The optimum temperature for rooting can be controlled. 4. The humidity around the cuttings can be controlled to prevent welting especially in soft cuttings. 5. Soaking hard to propagate cuttings in water: by this the concentration of the inhibitors inside the cuttings is decreased -it disolves in water which can be changed several times. 6. The concentration of the soluble sugars inside the cuttings can be increased by mixing sugars in the water media. 7. Planting stem cuttings in water culture can soften the hard tissue around roots primordia which makes the appearance of the roots more easier
