LEAFBLST: A computer simulation model for leaf blast development on rice

A computer simulator LEAFBLST for leaf blast progress on rice cultivar Jinheung was developed based on the data from growth chamber experiments and from the literatures. LEAFBLST was written in FORTRAN IV and composed of six subroutines representing conidia germination, infection, latent period, lesion expansion, and conidia production and dispersa, and four subroutines for initialization, leaf area calculation, and numerical and graphic output. Since the program was assembled on a modular basis, it can be easily modified and improved with more extensive data from further studies in the future. LEAFBLST was tested with data from two nursery plots of rice plants. The results indicated that LEAFBLST might be useful for forecasting leaf blast development on rice cultivar Jinheung if it is modified to accommodate the incoming inoculum blown from the surrounding fields and the temporal changes in host plant susceptibility
