A survey of farmers' weed control practices in wet-seeded rice (Oryza sativa L.) was conducted in Guimba, Nueva Ecija [Philippines] from February to June 1986. High seeding rates, high fertilizer rates but low rates of herbicides were being used by the farmers in the area. Large differences in the methods and timing of herbicide application were observed. Yield was reported to range from 1.4 to 7.4 t/ha. Echinochloa spp., Paspalum distichum L., Monochoria vaginalis (Burm. F.) Presl., Fibristylis miliacea (L.) Vall., Scirpus supinus L., and Cyperus iria L. were considered to be the most important weeds in wet-seeded rice, P. distichum and the Echinochloa spp. being the most difficult to control.
