Assay of Bacillus thuringiensis strains against some lepidopterous pests of rice [Oryza sativa; Philippines]

Three commercial Bacillus thuringiensis (B.t.) products, Thuricide, Dipel and Backie, were assayed against the rice green semilooper, Naranga aenescens, using the dipping method. Of the 3 products tested, Thuricide was found to be the most toxic with an LC50 value of .006 mg/ml, Dipel and Backie had LC50 values of .05 and 2.0 mg/ml, respectively. Three hundred B. thuringiensis isolates were screened for toxicity against the lepidopterous pests of rice. Of the total number of isolates screened for each insect pest, 52.6, 34.1, 27.2, 12.7 and 3.3 percent were found toxic to Rivula atimeta, Naranga aenescens, Nymphula depunctalis, Cnaphalocrocis medinalis, Scirpophaga incertulas and Chilo suppresalis, respectively
