Effect of Salvinia molesta on rice (Oryza sativa) [Philippines]
1987
Pablico, P.P. | Moody, K.
Field experiments were conducted at the Dingle Agricultural and Technical College farm and in a farmer's field in Dingle, Iloilo [Philippines] from November 12, 1986 to March 18, 1987 to determine the effect of Salvinia molesta on rice (Oryza sativa L.). With 100 weed cover, duration of infestation from 4 days after transplanting (DAT) to 70 DAT had no effect on grain yield. In wet-seeded rice, infestation during the first 14 days after seeding reduced seedling stand significantly. The time of flooding (100 percent submergence) at 4, 11, and 18 days after planting had no effect on grain yield of both wet-seeded and transplanted rice although rice seedling mortality occurred with early flooding in both methods of planting.
