Heterosis and genetic correlations among seven quantitative traits were estimated from 15 F1 hybrids derived from a 6 x 6 diallel cross of diverse peanut cultivars. The quantitative traits measured were seed yield and pod yield per plant, number of pods and number of seeds per plant, weight per pod, weight per seed and height of main axis. Heterosis in the desired direction was observed for certain characters but was most often limited in occurrence and amplitude. Hybrid vigor was mainly observed for height of main axis. Fewer crosses manifested superiority over the better parent performance than over the midparent performance. Heterosis was mostly observed in crosses between cultivars with different growth habits or belonging to different botanical varieties. Positive genetic correlations were observed in all pairs of traits except between number of seeds per plant and weight per seed. Seed yield per plant was generally correlated with the number of seeds per plant, weight per pod, pod yield per plant and height of main axis.
