Production standards for harvesting Albizia falcataria (Linn.) Fosb. plantations

Production time prediction models were developed for three work elements in the harvesting of Albizia falcataria plantations, namely, felling and bucking, minor transport, and loading. Continuous time study observations for each work element were fitted using the stepwise multiple linear regression technique. The acceptability of each of the models was ascertained by passing the validation test using the paired t-test criterion. Felling and bucking time standards were found to be influenced by tree volume, distance between trees, number of logs per tree and number of branches. Time standards developed for carabao minor transport operation were based on percent ground slope, number of logs per cycle/trip and volume per load. Manual log transport time is significantly affected by log length and volume. The small end diameter, log length, crew size and loading distance were the variables found to be correlated with loading time. Production standards for the different work elements as affected by the different parameters were generated based on the predicted time plus the necessary delay incurred for each activity. Production standards in cubic meter per hour or day for each work element were tabulated. The corresponding cost per unit production for each work element were presented in tabular form.
