Prevalence of enzootic bovine leukosis virus (BLV) antibodies in calves during the first months of life

Newborn calves were fed on colostrum from BLV-infected cows. Maternal BLV antibodies were detected in 89% of the animals. The antibodies persisted for 3-6 months after calving. In another group of calves aged 3 and 6 months, originating from herds where about 25% of cows were infected with BLV, 5.9 and 10.5% of the animals, respectively, were positive in the ELISA
