The efficacy of 21 repellents was analysed, 3 of them being of home production: Repentol-6, Emol and Repentol-0 and 18 of them of foreign production. The experiments with repellents were conducted in the regeneration areas - in open areas and under canopy of the stands exposed to browsing by deer and hares. Experimental plots (0.5-1.0 ha) were arranged in Latin square by 4 or 5 replications. 2-4 repellents were tested on each plot. The result of the studies showed that: 1. the repellents applied to shoots protected the plant against browsing; 2. the repellents changing the appearance and taste of of plants were more efficient than odour producing repellents; 3. the semi-fluid repellents, such as Repentol 6, Cervacol, Emol and Hate A were better than the fluid repellents such as Dendrocol 17 and Hate E; 4. those repellents discouraged the deer from browsing more than hares; 5. Repentol 6 and Emol efficiently protected shoots of all tree species; 6. among foreign repellents Morsuvin, Cervacol, Hate A, Pellacol proved to be most successful
