Methods of the determination and analysis of some physical properties of corn grain
1987
Frontczak, J.
The paper presents new investigation methods and a home-made apparatus for determination physical properties of corn grains. All physical properties of grains have been determined within a wide humidity range, i.e from 9 percent (dry material) up to 37 percent (as harvested under climatic conditions of Poland). Physical properties of 2 hybrids of corn, marked with the symbols of Kb-270 and BEKO-210, have been investigated. Physical properties of grains, such as geometry, force of binding of grains with corn-cobs, hardness of the fruit-seed cover, external friction coefficient of grains and the natural slip angle depend upon humidity of grains. Size of grain increases proportionally to increase of moisture content. Strength of corn binding and labour, required for removal of grains from corn cobs, increases proportionally to increase of humidity for all zones of the cob and for all hybrids
