Lazovic, D. (Institut za biljnu proizvodnju, Pec (Yugoslavia))
Nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium produced positive effects upon the yield of sugar beet root. Nitrogen produced the effect upon the yield of 13.2%, phosphorus 9.9% and potassium 4.4%. The effects of high doses of N, P and K on the whole, were small as a result of water insufficiency during intensive growth of sugar beet. The sugar beet yield was much influenced by weather conditions especially the time of precipitations during the vegetation period. Technologic quality of the root deteriorated with the increase of nitrogen doses especially regarding the content of amino-N in the root. The root yield and the sugar content in the root depended upon the variety while the amino-N content did not.
