Survival and superoxide dismutase activity in the rat after a prolonged treatment with Paraquat [herbicides]

Mortality of rats treated with Paraquat herbicide was significantly higher with old animals (90 days old at the beginning of experiment) in comparison with young animals (30 days at the beginning of experiment). Higher survival of young animals treated with Paraquat was correlated with the capacity of these animals to increase the activity of superoxide dismutase in the liver, kidneys and lung.
