Root nematodes (Meloidogyne spp.) are becoming more and more frequent at the territory of SR Serbia (Yugoslavia). Root nematodes first appeared in greenhouses and in the last two decades they have appeared in open fields too. The following species are found at the territory of SR Serbia: Meloidogyne acrita, M. arenaria (Neal) Chitwood, M. incognita (Koroid et White) Chitwood, M. hapla Chitwood, M. javanica (Treub) Chitwood and M. naasi Franklin.
