Evaluation of some exotic elite groundnut varieties under Bangladesh condition

Fifteen exotic promising groundnut varieties obtained from International Crop Research Institute for Semi Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), India were evaluated at the Regional Agricultural Research Station, Jamalpur during the 'rabi' 1987-88 season. The exotic varieties responded markedly in Bangladesh environment. The variety C-335 produced significantly highest nut yield (3795 kg/ha). (39% higher over the check) followed by CGC-4018 (2887 kg/ha) and VG -18 (2839 kg/ha). The highest number of nuts per plant (35) was produced by CGC-2. The maximum weight of nut (129-20 g/100) and kernel (66.00 g/100) were recorded from the highest yielder C-335. The Varieties RS-138 and C-335 took maximum period (189 days) to attain physiological maturity. On the other hand Dhaka-1. (Local check), Gangapuri, CGC-2, J-11, JL-24 and Rs-HYS-5 were found earlier among the entries.
