Sediment transport and sedimentation of the Ganges within Bangladesh
1989
Hossain, M.M.
Field data were utilised to estimate the recent trend in the sediment transport characteristics and changes in the mean bed level of the Ganges. The 125 km reach extending from a point near India-Bangladesh border upto its confluents with the Jamuna near Goalunda was considered. Analysis of the data showed that there was a trend of rise of mean bed level in the upper reaches and fall in the lower reaches within the study reach. The study also showed that sediment load transported through the Ganges varied over a wide range. Moreover simple power type relations were developed between sediment transport characteristics and geometry of the river.
