The production of oxalic acid phytotoxin of the fungus (Sclerotinia sclerotiorum), and scanning observation of its crystals were studied. The results showed that oxalic acid content increased as S-type model, and its accumulation rate was correlated positively with rate of fungal growth and with change of pH value in culture during incubation periods. In agar cultures supplemented with calcium, the crystals of phytotoxin were predominantly tetragonal or prismatic. The bioassay revealed the role of oxalic acid in pathogenesis.
