Effect of nitrogen fertilization on the amino acid content of maize grain protein [Egypt]
1986
Eskarous, M.A. (Cairo Univ. (Egypt). Faculty of Agriculture) | Basilious, S.I. | Abdel-Samad, A.
Two field experiments were carried out in Mallawi Station during 1982 and 1983 seasons to study the response of maize to nitrogen and its effect on the amino acid content of maize grain protein. The results indicated that there is a relationship between grain yield and total protein to nitrogen levels. It was found that the suitable dose of nitrogen to give optimum yield was 90 kg N/fed. It was also found that tryptophan increased by 70% while lysine decreased by 14% when 120 kg N/fed were applied. The maximum increase was observed in threonine, serine, histidine, glutamic acid and glycine.
