The role of indigenous industries in the promotion of rural development in Ghana - a case study in the Nzema area
1981
Hammond, J.H.
The role played by indigenous rural industries towards rural development in the Nzema area of Ghana is discussed. The rural industries are organised on individual basis and few worked in groups. These industries include traditional coconut oil processing with 30 % recovery of oil, raffia wine processing, and akpeteshie (kutuku) distillation with 70 % of plant requirement locally made. These industries encounter difficulties like bad roads, water shortage, lack of electricity, credit opportunities and shortage of food and marketing channels
