The use of sawdust from two tropical timber species as rooting media for Thuja orientalis and Ficus elastica

The effect of rooting media and hormone treatment on cuttings or marcots of Thuja orientalis and Ficus elastica is reported. Decomposed Sapele and Mahogany sawdust, sterilized loam and river sand mixes were used in the evaluation, with each of the cuttings treated with Seradix No. 2 rooting powder. Early rooting and better mean length of roots per rooted cutting were produced by Sapele sawdust mixes. Mahogany sawdust favoured late rooting but better number of roots per rooted cutting. Hormone treatment hastened and gave better rooting
