Effect of stand density on growth and yield of maize (Zea mays, L.)
1988
Oppong, J.
The optimum stand density for two open-pollinated varieties of maize, Dobidi and Kawanzie planted at four densities 1, 2, 3, and 4 plants per stand was evaluated. Grain yield was highest at 2 plants per stand for both varieties. Four plants per stand were least efficient especially for Dobidi. Dobidi produced significantly higher grain yields in the 1, 2 and 3 stand densities. Reduction in grain yield after stand density 2 was more drastic in the late maturing Dobidi than in Kawanzie, a smaller, early maturing variety
