Copper, molybdenum and crude protein content of alfalfa breeds grown on identical and different soils

The samples were collected in the same stage of development of the first growth of alfalfa grown on identical and different soils. Molybdenum content of alfalfa depended on the type of the soil. Most molybdenum (3.85 mg/kg dry matter) was found in alfalfa harvested from peaty boggy soil. Type of the soil did not effect the crude protein content. Molybdenum content of alfalfa grown on soury soils is low, however, it is 3-4 times higher than the requirement of the animals (0.40 mg/kg dry matter). There was positive correlation between alfalfa breeds grown on identical soils and their molybdenum and crude protein content. The copper content showed negative correlation with the breeds. Molybdenum content of alfalfa breeds that incorporate more crude protein was found also higher, while the copper content decreased with rising quantity of crude protein.
