In earlier studies the author observed the occurrence of Ascochyta pisi Lib. types resistant to benomyl in Hungary and also produced mutants with this property by using UV-irradiation. The benomyl tolerance of Ascochyta species, pathogens of papilionaceous crops were studied later, in order to establish their basic level of tolerance. In present study 3 Ascochyta species were tested (18 isolates of A. fabae, A. pisi var. pisi, A. pisi var. foliicola, A. viciae). The tolerance was measured by the ED50 values, as established on the radial growth of the colonies. In our studies the ED50 values to benomyl were higher than 1 ppm in all tested isolates. In the benzimidazole applications significant differences were noted among the isolates and no differences were noted between the isolates resistant and sensitive to benomyl.
