1990
Al-Zubaidi, Kh.I.
This study includes a field survey for the food items consumed by a sample representing different age groups ranging from 7-10 to 19-22 years in the Palestinian camps located in Baqa, Wehdat, Hetteen and Shaheed Azmi Al-mufttee. The intakes of protein, energy, fats, phosphorus, iron, vitamins A, B1, B2 and C, and niacin were estimated in the study. These values were compared with the American Standards. It was found that the consumption averages were higher than the American Standards for protein, iron and niacin. On the other hand, they were lower for fat, calcium, phosphorus and energy. Analysis of variance was conducted to test if there is any difference in composition between the individuals of each of the age groups. Results have shown that there is a difference in composition in the same age group. Correlation coefficients were calculated for the consumption of the different food items as well as variables for the number of family members, income, age and sex. The correlation analysis results have showed an obvious effect and a high significance in composition. The males in the group 19-20 years consumed an average of 46 g white meat (poultry), 44 g of read meat, 46 g of eggs, 48 g of dairy products, 28 g of legumes, 65 g of sugar, 156 g of vegetables, 141 g of fruits, 37 g of oil, 330 g of grains, 15 g of herbs. These ingredients have supplied 77 g of protein, 70 g of fat, 2100 kcal of energy, 814 mg of calcium, 1050 mg of phosphorus, 27.8 mg of iron, 0.77 mg of vitamin B1, 1.6 mg of vitamin B2, 35 mg niacin and 70.5 mg of vitamin C. Balanced and low-cost human diet has been developed according to age and sex
