Evaluation of potato cultivars under Jordan Valley conditions [selecting new cultivars for potato production: yielding capacity, disease resistance, shape and size of tubers, quality; Spunta, Jaerila]
1989
Al-Sahsah, Z.M.
Performance of fourteen potato cultivars was evaluated for two seasons under Jordan Valley conditions. Results indicated that "Ladyrosetta and Fambo" contained the highest dry matter percentage at Wadi-Alyabis Experimental Station, and "Ladyrosetta and V. Rijn-78-49" contained the highest dry matter content for the other locations. Protein and sugar percentage varied with tuber size. Irrespective of tuber size the highest protein percentage was obtained from Spunta at Wadi-Alyabis. Small size tubers of "Ladyrosetta, Ventura and Monalisa", medium size tubers of Spunta and Large size tubers of V. Rijn-78-48-49 cultivars gave the highest protein percentage at Abu-Abyda and Jordan University Farm locations. The lowest reducing sugars percentages were obtained from small tubers of "Wis-78-102 and Ladyrosetta", medium tubers of "Frisia" and tubers of large Ventura" cultivars at Wadi-Alyabis. The cultivars "Caspar and Frisia", and Oblex" and "V. Rijn-78-49" gave the lowest reducing sugars percentages at Abu-Aubyda for the small, medium and large size tubers, respectively. However, the cultivars "V. Rijn-78-49", "Spunta" and "V. Rijn-78-36" were the lowest in reducing sugars percentage for the respective size at Jordan University Farm"
