Preliminary study on the effect of foliar urea spray on the yield, oil percentage and nitrogen of Karotena olive cultivar

Karotena olive trees were sprayed with urea as a foliar spray at 0.5, 1.0, and 1.5% concentration with different number of sprays (1, 2, 3 and 4 times) in the Baqa'a Valley at 4 weekly intervals starting in early May, June, July and August, to study the response of foliar application of urea on the percent oil content of fruits, the total yield of the tree and the nitrogen content of the leaves. The results of the experiment indicated an increase in the total fruit yield by foliar spray of urea at 0.5%. Application of higher urea concentrations tended to reduce the yield when sprayed three times. It was concluded that spraying olive trees with urea at 0.5% concentration gave a higher correlation between N% of the leaves and oil% (r=0.95) and good correlation between N% of the leaves and yield (r=0.75) at the second year, and a negative correlation at the first year (r=0.024). This indicated an increase in the yield of fruits and N% of the leaves by spraying trees with 0.5% urea once in May.
