Agricultural use of the plant growth regulators. 3; Effect of brassinolide on reducing heribicidal phytotoxicity of rice seedlings

The study was conducted at the Yeongnam Crop Experiment Station in 1988 to investigate the safening effect of a new plant growth regulator "brassinolide" against herbicides, 2,4-D and butachlor. Seed soaking treatment of brassinolide (10** (-4) - 10** (-1) ppm) was effectively reduced the herbicidal phytotoxicity of rice seedling when 2, 4-D and butachlor were applied. The safening effect of 2, 4-D by brassinolide was more pronounced at low concentration rather than high concentration of brassinolide while concentrations of 2, 4-D itself had clear tendency. For butachlor, however, safening effect by brassinolide was not significantly different among brassinolide concentrations but significantly affected by butachlor concentrations, the enhancement of safening effect with increase butachlor concentrations. For hydroponic culture after root dipping treatment, the effect of brassinolide treatment was higher at butachlor than 2, 4-D. The recovery activity in shoot elongation was greater at high concentration of brassinolide than low concentration. Even though clear tendency was not showed among the concentration of butachlor, the elongation effect was enhanced at high concentration of 2, 4-D. The potential of seedling growth was greater at low concentration of brassinolide with high concentration for herbicides when herbicides were treated in submerged soil at 4 days after transplanting
