A protozoa, Tetrahymena sp. was isolated from domestic wastewater and identified by morphological characteristics. It was 50 to 70 micro m in length, ovoidal shape, and divided by binary fission. When Escherichia coli was fed as a food microorganism, the optimal conditions for growth were 30 to 35deg C, pH 7 to 9 and 0.05 % NaCl. The growth was inhibited by heavy metal ions; 0.3mg of Cd++/l and 0.1mg of Cu++/l. However, it was not inhibited up to 0.7 mg of Zn++/l
