A field trial on apple tree infected by Valsa ceratosperma was performed to see the efficacy of berberine sulfate and berberin iodide which showed high inhibitory activity against the pathogen in Vitro. Berberine sulfate was formulated as injection type of different concentrations and berberine iodide as 0.15 % paste. Trunk injection of one liter of 0.15 to 0.3 % berberine sulfate soln. to adult apple trees infected by the pathogen resulted in an excellent control effect. The application of berberine iodide paste to infected apple trees also showed a decreased recurrence rate of the lesions resulting from the pathogen and an increased formation of calluses, which was superior to thiopanate methyl or chinosol paste. Berberine sulfate treated by trunk injection in apple tree reached all branches in 7 days, but almost all of the ingredient has disappeared in 30 days
