Two experiments were conducted to elucidate the response of planting and the feasibility of using different seeding machines for dwarf soybean cultivars in the upland field of Kyongnam PRDA from 1986 to 1987. Effect of plant population density on the growth and grain yield. Number of nodes and pods per m** (2) increased by increasing the plant population density from 33,000 plants per 10a to 100,000 plants per 10a in two cultivars. The decrease in seeds per pod by dense-planting was more acute in Dangeong-kong than in Paldal-kong. The yield of Paldal-kong increased at 66,000 plants/10a and 100,000 plants/10a but in Dangeong-kong the yield decreased in more dense-planting. Trial to determine the feasibility of using different seeding machines. Time taken for seeding with multi-purpose seeder, rice seeder, hand seeder, and rice transplanter, is 40 min, 47 min, 166 min, and 227 min respectively as compared to 760 min, for conventional method. The number of missing plants was below 0.5 % by hand seeder and multipurpose seeder, while it was 66 % by rice transplanter. Although soybean grain yields per 10a of plots sown with three mechanical seeding machines were lower than that of conventional method the yield differences were statistically insignificant. The soybean grain yield of plots seeded with the rice transplanter was lower than the conventionally planting plots. Therefore more studies will be needed before recommending machine seeding
