This study was carried out to investigate the growth characteristics, forage yield of spring oats (Avena sativa L.) in Cheju area from March 1986 to June 1987. The heading date of Hayade, Ari-80 and Sprinter was earliest with the 21th May and that of Jeonjin was latest with the 2nd June. The green matter yield of Hayade (4,950 Kg/10a) was high, and that of ARi-80 (4,750 Kg/10a) was medium, and that of Sprinter (4,267 Kg/10a) was low, but there were not significant differences aamong the cultivars. The dry matter yield of Hayade (1,176 Kg/10a) was higher than others. There were highly significant differences (p0.01) among the cultivars in the grain yield. The average crude protein content of Hayade was 10.19 % and that of Ari-80 was 10.64 % and that of Jeonjin was 10.62 %
