Kang, Y.B. (Rural Development Administration, Anyang (Korea R.). Veterinary Research Institute)
The surface structures of Orthocoelium streptocoelium one of the rumen flukes collected from the slaughtered cattle in Korea were observed on the scanning electron microscope. The body presents banana shape not conical, with a mean 7.8 mm in length and the means of 1.2 mm to 2.8 mm in width. The body is observed as strongly concave ventrally and is generally milky white in color with some transparent pinkish parts around the posterior margin. The genital pore (0.14 mm in diameter) surrounded with well developed genital sphincter muscle is situated in a distance of 2.4 mm ventro-posterially. No genital protrusion is observed in the genital organ. The oral sucker (0.3 mm in diameter) and the ventral sucker (0.6 mm in diameter) are found usually as opened. Numerous spine-like papillae forming the concentric circles are observed in the vicinity of the oral sucker
