The combining ability for grain yield and its components were tested from full-diallel crosses among nine japonica rice cultivars. Rough rice yield of 72 F1 hybrids ranged from 64.2 Kg/10a to 1,083.0 Kg/10a with the mean of 579.6 Kg/10a. The F1 hybrids showing higher yieds were S.224/ Gwanagbyeo, Samnambyeo/ Gwanagbyeo, Nagdongbyeo/ Gwanagbyeo, Reimei/ Gwanagbyeo and Reimei/ Nagdongbyeo, and their yields were 1,083.0 Kg/10a, 916.1 Kg/10a, 899.6 Kg/10a, 877.4 Kg/10a and 877.3 Kg/10a respectively. Variance of GCA was higher than that of SCA in yield and its components except 1,000 grains weight, and there were reciprocal differences in all characters tested. Gwanagbyeo and Nagdongbyeo as male parents, and S.224, Samnambyeo and Reimei as female parents were promising cultivars from the results of combining ability test. The expression of heterosis for yield components was different between high-yielding group and low-yielding group. Path coefficients of yield and its components to the yield were the highest in the number of grains per panicle followed by 1,000 grains weight and number of panicles per hill in high-yielding group. In the low-yielding group the highest was 1,000 grains weight followed by grain fertility
