Factors affecting the adoption of artificial drying by farmers [Philippines]
1987
Toquero, Z.F.
In spite of the presence and availability of different types of mechanical dryers in the region, farmers were found to have very limited use for them. Sun drying is still the most common and popular method in the region. Mechanical drying is often used only as a last recourse when sundrying becomes impossible. This practice was attributed to a number of factors which are technical, economic, socio-cultural and political in nature. In this paper, the handling of wet harvested grain is examined in the context of the ASEAN region and the different factors affecting farmers adoption and use of artificial drying technologies are discussed.
