Conversion of vegetable oils into hydrocarbons
1987
Sutaria, Z. | Fausto, R.C. (Philippines Univ., Diliman, Quezon City (Philippines). Dept. of Chemistry)
Three vegetable oils were selected for conversion into hydrocarbons, namely, coconut oil, corn oil and peanut oil. The oils were converted first to fatty acids, then to fatty amides, to fatty amines, to fatty alcohols, to alkyl chlorides and finally to alkanes/alkenes. Some physical constants, namely, boiling points, specific gravities and refractive indices of the oils, the hydrocarbons and the intermediate compounds were determined.
