Visual method for rapid estimation of lysine content in barley kernels: an analysis of single kernels halves [a simple screening test for the selection of high-lysine barleys]

The method is based on the occurrence of negative correlation between the contents of prolamine (hordein) and lysine in the barley kernel protein. The contents of hordein and indirectly lysine are estimated on the basis of the intensity of colour resulting from Coomassie Brillant Blue bond with standardly prepared hordein extracts of the studied samples (chromatography-paper test)
