A study on the abundance and distribution of oyster larvae at the pre-settling stage (D-shaped to Umbo stage) and settling stage (Spat stage) was conducted along Khlong Nathap in Jana District, Songkhla Province. There were 4 sampling stations, one located at the mouth of Khlong Nathap, while the others were located in the canal and about 2 km. apart far from each other. Some water quality parameters at the study sites such as salinity, transparency, temperature, DO and pH were monitored throughout the study period (4 January to 26 April 1986). The average values of abundance of the pre-settling stage at stations 1,2,3 and 4 were 4080.4, 2650.0, 2827.7 and 6540.6 individuals/cu.m. respectively. The average values of abundance of oyster spat at stations 1,2,3 and 4 were 0.92, 0.15, 0.016 and 0.004 individual/4 sq.cm. respectively. Station 1 was considered to be the most suitable place for the collection of oyster spat.
