The paper provides a description of economic importance of mushrooms, the amount of collected mushrooms in Yugoslavia, their consumption and export. The possibilities of the Toplica region are particularly described. Special attention is paid to the species, Boletus edulis and Cantharellus cibarius and their varieties. In the structure of Yugoslav vegetable export, mushrooms make up 15.3% of the total quantity and over 60% of the total profit. Picking, purchase and processing of mushrooms are of great importance for the existance of the population in the hill-mountainous areas.
