The reproductive, productive and long life characteristics of the Simmental breed cattle, have been studied using a control sample of 304 mother-daughter pairs. Phenotype values of all the tested characteristics, with the exception of the duration of lactation, are higher in the mother groups with regard to productive characteristics of the first lactation and the total lifetime production, and with regard to long life. Values of heritibility coefficients (h ) vary from 0,06 for butterfat yield in the first standard lactation, to 0,52 for the age at culling. Taking into consideration that other long life characteristics have high heritability values, it is, therefore, concluded that the degree of heredity of the long life characteristics is very significant for the observed herd. Heredity of lifetime milk and butterfat yields is expressed in significant values of standard lactation, while heredity of butterfat content shows an even higher value.
