Bhowmik, A. | Omura, T. | Kumamaru, T.
One hundred and eighteen rice varieties/lines from Bangladesh were screened out by SDS-PAGE (Sodium dodecyl Sulfate Polyacrylamide Gel Electrophoresis) analysis at Plant Breeding Laboratory, Kyushu University, Japan. The results of the two dimensional gel electrophoresis confirms the SDS-PAGE analysis results. The protein fractions were extracted by several kinds of solvents was very light. Low content of prolamin suggests that the decrease in prolamin content is the result of low 13b polypeptide region. The prolamin content in Laxmi kajal was higher than other varieties. The glutelin content in Kinmaze and Boilam was higher (3.74 mg and 3.58 mg respectively) than other varieties. The polypeptide regions 22-39KDa are responsible for glutelin. From the result it can be concluded that the varieties BR3 and BR9 may be used as breeding Laxmi Kajal and Boilam which varied in their polypeptide composition may be used as basic genetic material for genetical studies.
