Yield and yield components of wheat, coriander and linseed grown as sole and intercrops under different planting patterns [in Bangladesh]

An experiment was conducted at the Agronomy Field Laboratory, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh during the Rabi season of 1978-88 to determine the effect of intercrop competition on the yield and yield components of wheat, coriander and linseed. The yield and yield components of wheat (except ear length) were not significantly affected when coriander or linseed was grown as intercrop. The size of the ear decreased when wheat was grown in paired row intercropped with coriander. Coriander and linseed appeared to lose their individual yields in intercropping arrangements but ultimately they gave additional crops without affecting the yield of main crop. Hence, coriander and linseed can be chosen as good intercrops in wheat cultivation.
