Nematode parasites of sugarcane in some areas of Bangladesh
1989
Mian, I.H. | Tsuno, K.
A survey was conducted to survey the species and population dynamics of nematodes parasitic on sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum) cultivated for the production of molasses in some areas of Bangladesh during harvesting period, October to November, 1987. Eight genera of nematodes were found to be associated with crop in the surveyed areas. Hoplolaimus indicus was the predominant nematode in October, but its population decreased thereafter. The highest populations of Criconemoides sp., Helicotylenchus indicus, Helicotylenchus sp. and Zygotylenchus were observed in November. Their populations were minimal in October and decreased after November. Populations of Hemicycliophora sp., Meloidogyne incognita, Tylenchus sp., and Xiphinema sp. were the lowest of all species observed throughout the study period.
