The pollen grains of Haynaldia villosa (L.) Shur. can germinate normally on the stigma of Hordeum vulgare L. The growth of the pollen tubes through the style, and the process of double fertilization are also normal in most cases. However, the processes of fertilization and development of proembryo and endosperm of hybrid in early stage are slower than those of self-pollination. 36-48 hours after pollination, the first mitotic division of the hybrid zygote took place and two-celled proembryo occurred in the embryo sac of hybrid. The degeneration of proembryo in crossing appeared in most cases 8 days after pollination. About 5 - 6 hours, the first mitotic division of the primary endosperm nucleus in the hybrid took place. About 6 days after pollination, the hybrid endosperm began to degenerate. The degeneration of hybrid endosperm was earlier than that of hybrid proembryo. The ideal stage in vitro culture of hybrid proembryo is about 6 - 7 days after pollination
