Studies on efficiency of early generation selection on some quality and yield characters in wheat

Three single crosses of winter wheat were materials, early generation selection efficiency of some quality and yield characters were investigated for a period of two years. The main results are as follows: the heritability estimates of sedimentation value and test weight are rather high, while those of protein content and protein yield per plant are rather low. The relative expected genetic advance of sedimentation values and protein yield per plant of each hybrid in early generation are rather high, they all surpassed a level of 20%. The stabilities of different quality characters are different, but all the quality characters concerned in the paper are quite greatly influenced by environments
