Hua-double NO.1 is the first double low cultivar of B. napus L bred in Huazhong Agricultural University. The oil content of the cultivar is 43%. Its erucic acid content in oil is lower than 1% and its glucosinolates content is lower than 35umol/g. Its protein content in meal is higher than 40%. These characters fully meet the requirements of high quality rapeseed production. Its early maturing character enable the cultivar to be grow on double or triple cropping regions. The tactic for quality improvement breeding was discussed. Four inexpedient approaches practiced in ordinary breeding had to be improved. Appropriate considerations would be given to the selection of multiple agronomic traits, espeially the number of siliquae per plant, as well as methods of backcrossing, multiple crossing and recurrent selection
