Numbers of enterococci and urease activity (E.C.3.5.1.5.) in the rumen content of calves were studied after dietetico-microbial stimulation. Animals of the test group were given the milk replacer Laktavit, the special feed mixture in which part of cereals was replaced by components atypical of feeds used in calf rearing and microbial preparation Amylastim (1 g per calf and day), which in 1 g contains one milliard of vital germs of Streptococcus bovis, strain AO 24/85. In the seventh week, the control group of animals had a significantly higher number of enterococci (P 0.001) in comparison with the test group. In the ninth week the number of enterococci in the test group increased (P 0.05), compared with the control group. Dietetico-microbial stimulation of urease activity of the rumen content was significant in the test group in the sixth week (P 0.01), the eight week (P 0.05), the ninth (P 0.001) and the eleventh week (P 0.05), when significant differences were stated, compared with the control group.
