Growth and slaughter values of Hybro, Ross 208 and Hisex Brown cockerels were studied. Significant differences in the live weight between egg-type and meat-type cockerels were recorded up to 7 days of age. Meaty Hybro cockerels had significantly higher growth intensity up to 35 days of age. Hisex Brown cockerels showed low carcass values and percentage of valuable parts. Comparing the meat performance of Hybro and Ross cockerels at 5 and 6 weeks of age, the meat yield of Ross increased with the age, while Hybro was age-independent. Hybro cockerels had more abdominal and intramuscular fat. In other parameters studied no substantial differences between the meat-type hybrids were found. Considering the specific growth rate coefficient and high feed intake of Hisex Brown, fattening of cockerels is not effective even in the low weight category.
