The comparison of diploid paternal components of sugar beet

Problems of improving the diploid multigerm pollinators by means of family breeding have been dealt with in the years 1986-1988. Statistically significant differences in all traits were observed among the populations under study. In the traits of sugar beet root and refined sugar yields the increase of the level of these traits was recorded. The trait of sugar beet root yield was ranked as follows: 1986 (23.13 t per ha); 1987 (37.49 t per ha); 1988 (40.95 per ha); or the trait of refined sugar yield: 1986 (2.42 t per ha); 1987 (4.85 t per ha); 1988 (4.96 per ha). In sugar content, no such rising trend appeared and the situation in this case was as follows: 1986 (13.63 per cent); 1988 (14.91 per cent); 1987 (16.05 per cent). All the populations employed in the trial will be used in the process of new breeding in formation of single-seed hybrids the combination capability of which will be tested too.
