Long-term effect of different crop rotations on the uptake of microelements in spring barley

In a field experiment, the effects of a different proportion of cereals in the crop rotation on the uptake of microelements in spring barley were studied. The experiment lasted for ten years. The obtained results may be summarized as follows: 1. Within a ten-year period, the increasing proportion of cereals in the crop rotation showed a different effect on the uptake of microelements by spring barley. 2. Of microelements under study, only Mn was not significantly affected by a higher proportion of cereals and/or by the monoculture. 3. A significant decrease of Fe, Zn, Cu and B uptake by the total harvest was observed in monoculture (as compared with the crop rotation with 50 per cent of cereals). 4. The increased proportion of cereals from 50 per cent to 62.5 per cent resulted in a significant decrease in Fe, Zn and Cu uptake by grain.
