Water is the crucial governing factor in the agricultural development of the marginal semi-arid areas of Kenya. This paper tries to identify the problems associated with the demand and supply of both agricultural and domestic water use in the marginal areas of Machakos district. Observes that for proper development and management of water resources, and planning for optimal utilization. It is necessary to establish the water balance of the district and to explore geological formations likely to yield more water and the problems constraining the efficient exploitation and supply of water to the rural people
