1989
Navarez, D.C. | Moody, K.
Two experiments were conducted at the International Rice Resesearch Inst. [Los Banos, Laguna, Philippines] to determine the effect of varying degrees of weed infestation (based on area) in transplanted rice. In the first experiment which was conducted during the dry season, the degrees of infestation ranged from 1 to 50%. A weedy and weed free checks were included. The dominant weeds were Echinochloa glabrescens Munro ex Hook. f. and Cyperus difformis L. The number of rice tillers and grain yield were reduced at all levels of weed infestation. In the second experiment which was conducted during the wet season, the degrees of weed infestation ranged from 0.16 to 6.25%. A weedy and weed free checks were included. The dominant weed species was C. difformis. The number of rice tillers decreased with increasing level of infestation starting from 0.32%. However, there was no significant decrease in grain yield at all weed infestation levels below 1%. Yield reductions occurred at 1 and 6% infestation levels but these were lower than that from the weedy check.
